Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal directed officials to start the appointment process for 147 heirs of Chandrapur Municipal Corporation sanitation workers.

A meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai on giving jobs on hereditary grounds to heirs of sanitation workers of the Chandrapur Municipal Corporation has directed that the appointment process for 147 heirs be carried out. Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal gave the directions. The meeting was held after MLA Kishor Jorgewar followed up on the matter persistently.

The Lad-Page Committee recommendations and appointments of sanitation workers' heirs on hereditary grounds were on the agenda. Jorgewar pointed out that technical difficulties arise in appointing heirs of employees working as safai kuli and safai reja at the corporation. It was argued that, under the Lad-Page Committee recommendations and the provisions of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department's Government Resolution of February 24, 2023, both posts should be treated as equivalent to sanitation workers, and their heirs should also get the benefit of hereditary appointment.

Misal asked that safai kuli and safai reja be counted among sanitation workers. She also directed the officials concerned to promptly prepare a list of eligible heirs on the basis of applications submitted by the heirs themselves, and to carry out the recruitment process.

The meeting also raised the point that hereditary-right cases should not be kept pending on the grounds of the limit on sanctioned posts in the staffing pattern, vacancies and establishment expenditure conditions. It was clarified that, under the Government Resolution of February 24, 2023, the staffing pattern and establishment expenditure limits do not apply to hereditary appointments of sanitation workers' heirs. The provision also says the Finance Department's restrictions on recruitment do not apply to such cases.

The matter of pending cases from August 12, 1975 to February 23, 2023 also came up. Attention was drawn to the fact that, under the Government Resolution of October 13, 2024, the revised provisions of the February 24, 2023 resolution apply to pending cases from this period. Appointments of heirs of sanitation workers who do filth-cleaning work, under the Government Circular of January 28, 2025, were also discussed.

Jorgewar also raised the point that heirs should be appointed to suitable posts after considering their educational qualifications. It was pointed out that, if an heir so wishes, there is a provision to appoint them according to their education to Group C posts such as clerk, sanitary inspector, or posts in the civil engineering or electrical departments.

Those present included MLA Kishor Jorgewar, Teachers' Constituency MLA Sudhakar Adbale, Urban Development Department Deputy Secretary Manjusha Karande, Social Justice Department Deputy Secretary Varsha Deshmukh, General Administration Department Under Secretary Shruti Todaskar, section officer Karangurkar, Chief Officer Madhuri Salame, Municipal Deputy Commissioner Sheshrao Tale, DMA Deputy Commissioners Rohidas Dorkutkar and Suraj Ghadse, and Adv. Rajesh Kusare.

Jorgewar had followed up so that the issue, pending for many years, would be resolved and sanitation workers' families would get justice. It is expected that the appointment process for the 147 heirs will now gather pace and eligible heirs will soon get relief.
