Jodhpur couple paraded, heads shaved over alleged affair, police register case
Villagers in Jodhpur district paraded a young man and woman and shaved their heads over a suspected relationship, and police have registered a case after a video went viral.
A shocking incident has come to light from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, where villagers publicly humiliated a young man and woman suspected of being in a relationship. The incident is reported from Khudiyala village in Jodhpur district, where the two were accused of being in a relationship that went against the community's set norms.
According to the allegations, villagers angered by this paraded the pair through the village, in what is locally called a "dhind", to discourage anyone else from having a relationship in future. The two were then beaten publicly, and finally their heads were shaved bald. Someone present at the scene recorded the entire incident on a mobile phone.
The recording was later shared on social media, after which the matter came to public attention. The video was posted from the X (formerly Twitter) account @nextminutenews7, with the caption describing the incident, and it quickly went viral, drawing a wide range of reactions. One user commented that publicly humiliating someone just for being in love was completely wrong. Another wrote that no matter how far the world progresses, some people's thinking never changes. A third user called it excessive.
After the video went viral, police swung into action. According to available information, the Superintendent of Police (rural) has taken cognisance of the matter and assured that action will be taken. Police have registered a case, and legal action against the guilty is expected to follow. However, the matter is currently based on the post and video shared on social media, and the claims made in it remain to be verified.
