The 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season has begun. In Elite Group B, Saurashtra and Chhattisgarh are playing each other today. Saurashtra batted first and put up a strong 392 in their first innings. The highlight of the innings was a century by India star Ravindra Jadeja.
Jadeja faced 209 balls and scored 102, hitting seven fours. It is his 16th century in first-class cricket. The hundred showed his batting form once again. After this performance with the bat, he will now be looking to make his mark with the ball as well.
Jadeja was not the only one to score in the Saurashtra innings. Opener Chirag Jani played an important knock of 83 off 148 balls, with 12 fours and three sixes. Wicketkeeper-batter Harvik Desai made 20. Jay Gohil, who came in at number three, added 31.
Prerak Mankad also batted well, scoring 129 off 150 balls. Batting at a strike rate of 86, Mankad hit 15 fours and a six. His innings helped Saurashtra reach 392 in the first innings.
Most of India's star players are currently preparing for the tour of New Zealand. Against this backdrop, Jadeja's century in the Ranji Trophy is being seen as significant. Jadeja had performed well in the Test series against Sri Lanka. He then failed completely in one-day cricket, which raised questions about his form. By scoring a century in the Ranji Trophy, he has now sent a strong signal to the selection committee. Jadeja is expected to play an important role on the New Zealand tour. He had also played an important role in the Test series against England.
For Chhattisgarh, bowler Dev Aditya Singh bowled well. He conceded 67 runs in 24 overs and took five wickets. Rudra Pratap and Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took two wickets each, while Sandeep Warrier got one.
