Tension in the Middle East has reached a critical point once again. Amid growing friction between Iran and the United States, the US administration has issued an important security warning for all its citizens living in or travelling through the region.

The notice was issued on October 18 by several embassies in the Middle East, including the US embassy in Amman, Jordan. It asks citizens to remain highly vigilant and to keep travel plans ready in advance for an emergency.

According to the US administration's notice, Iran and groups backing Tehran could directly target American interests abroad. These include US-linked business establishments, military or diplomatic sites and American citizens.

Because of the tension, airspace in the Middle East could close in the coming days, many flights could be cancelled, and there is every likelihood of major disruption to movement. The embassy has therefore advised travellers to stay in constant touch with airlines.

An October 18 alert from the US mission in Saudi Arabia said the Iran-backed Houthis have been involved in fighting against Saudi Arabia. Attacks on civilian airports and other key infrastructure caused civilian casualties and heavy disruption to travel. The alert said the conflict could spread rapidly beyond that region.

The background is a war of words between Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump, openly backing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had issued a stern warning to Iran. On Truth Social, Trump said that if Tehran did not change its aggressive attitude and policy immediately, the US and its friends would soon "finish the job".

According to US military sources, the Pentagon has kept several military options ready for possible action against Iran. These may include the use of the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB, the "Mother of All Bombs"), considered extremely lethal. Given the US elections and Israel's political situation, the warning from the Trump administration has been delivered in sharper terms.

After Trump's statement, Iran also took a hard line. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on the social media platform X, giving a sharp reply to the American warning. Araghchi wrote, "The last time you wanted to 'finish the job', Iran emerged stronger than before. If you want to try your luck again, by all means try. But remember, we too have some unfinished business!"

Araghchi also made serious allegations against Netanyahu. The Iranian foreign minister claimed that Netanyahu is pushing the US into another devastating war with Iran to save himself from jail and for his own political survival. He warned clearly that if the US commits any military adventure, Iran will respond with full force.

The effects of this direct confrontation are no longer confined to the two countries and are visible across the international community. Alerts from US embassies in key Middle Eastern countries such as Jordan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have caused alarm among international travellers.

Several major international airlines have begun reviewing their routes in the Middle East. If the situation worsens, fuel supplies, crude oil prices and global stock markets could be hit. For now, the world is watching for the next official steps and statements from Washington and Tehran.
