A 23-year-old man has died in Indore in Madhya Pradesh. He has been identified as Chirag Sen, alias Lala. It has emerged that the incident followed a quarrel with his girlfriend. After his death, a protest was held on Tuesday with his body placed at the main square in the Banganga area, and the area remained tense for some time.

On Sunday night, Chirag saw his girlfriend Nisha playing garba with another young man. The two quarrelled over it. Chirag then consumed poison. When his condition worsened, a friend rushed him to hospital. He died on Monday while undergoing treatment.

According to police, Chirag lived in Vrindavan Colony in the Banganga area. Police said he worked with a local bhajan mandali and was also in contact with some political leaders. Chirag and Nisha had been in a relationship for four years and had been in a live-in relationship for the past five months. Police said Chirag consumed poison out of mental stress after Sunday's quarrel.

Angered by his death, family members and friends brought Chirag's body to the main square in the Banganga area on Tuesday after the post-mortem examination. There they blocked the road. The protesters carried placards reading "Justice for Chirag". They said they would not move the body until a case was registered against the young woman.

More than 200 people took part in the protest, which affected traffic in the area. On receiving information, ACP Rubina Mijwani and Siyaram Singh Gurjar, in charge of Banganga police station, reached the spot with a police team.

Police spoke to the protesters and persuaded them. They assured them that the case would be investigated impartially and appropriate legal action taken. The family then called off the protest. Banganga police are carrying out further investigation.
