In Sanatan Dharma, Ekadashi is considered a special tithi for the worship of Lord Vishnu. Indira Ekadashi, which falls in the Krishna Paksha of the month of Ashwin, comes during Pitru Paksha, and is therefore given greater importance. A fast is observed and Vishnu is worshipped on this day. Offerings and donations are also made for ancestors. Here are the date of Indira Ekadashi this year and the auspicious timings for the fast and puja.

According to the Vedic Panchang, the Ashwin Krishna Ekadashi tithi begins at 2:07 am on Tuesday, October 6, and ends at 12:34 am on October 7. By Udaya Tithi, the Indira Ekadashi fast will be observed on Tuesday, October 6.

The timings for the puja are as follows. On Indira Ekadashi, Brahma Muhurta will be from 4:39 am to 5:28 am. The time for worship is from 9:13 am to 1:37 pm. Labh-Unnati Muhurta will be from 10:41 am to 12:09 pm, while Amrit-Sarvottam Muhurta will be from 12:09 pm to 1:37 pm. Abhijit Muhurta is from 11:46 am to 12:33 pm.

The Indira Ekadashi fast will be broken on Wednesday, October 7. The time for breaking the fast will be from 6:17 am to 8:38 am. The Dwadashi tithi ends at 11:16 am the same day.

This year, Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga is also forming on Indira Ekadashi. It will last from 6:17 am to 10:17 pm. This yoga is considered favourable for auspicious undertakings. Rahu Kaal on the same day will be from 3:05 pm to 4:33 pm.

Indira Ekadashi is considered an important Ekadashi of Pitru Paksha. It is believed that worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day brings peace to the ancestors and keeps their blessings on the family. The story of Indira Ekadashi speaks of the liberation of ancestors and the blessings of Lord Vishnu.

On this day, some people fast and worship Lord Vishnu and the Shaligram. Tarpan, shraddha and donations are also performed for ancestors. According to religious belief, the Ekadashi fast frees a person from sins and opens the path to moksha.
