IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) announced on Sunday that international flights at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be expanded in phases. Under the plan, IndiGo will gradually increase its international operations at NMIA from February 2027.
As part of the expansion, IndiGo will move 12 daily international flights from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to NMIA in phases. These include all existing flights from CSMIA to Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta.
An additional daily service to Kathmandu will also be started. Between February and July 2027, this will take the total number of destinations from NMIA in IndiGo's international network to 12.
To support these international services and give passengers seamless connectivity for onward journeys, IndiGo will also move its essential domestic connectivity from CSMIA to NMIA. To keep transfers between IndiGo's international and domestic services easy and efficient, AAHL has worked with IndiGo to put the necessary infrastructure in place at NMIA. This is the next step in IndiGo's expansion strategy, which aims to make NMIA an international hub over the long term.
The capacity freed up at CSMIA will serve two further shared purposes. First, it will make room for IndiGo's international expansion in 2027, allowing the airline to launch new services in Asia, Africa and Europe with its growing fleet of A320/321 and A321XLR aircraft.
Second, the shift in domestic flights will help IndiGo meet its share of the capacity reduction needed for the redevelopment of Terminal T1 at CSMIA by 2030. IndiGo and AAHL will continue to work together to ensure that any changes to IndiGo's services required for the T1 redevelopment are accommodated in Terminal T2 at CSMIA.
AAHL said the phased shift is being carried out with the presence of every airline at CSMIA in mind. The aim is to balance capacity in Mumbai's two-airport system in a transparent, fair and proportionate way. According to AAHL, this balanced approach will keep the transition orderly for all airlines, reduce disruption to operations and let airlines and passengers plan better. This will happen as NMIA expands its capacity and the redevelopment of CSMIA moves ahead.
Once final project coordination is complete and the necessary operational approvals are received, IndiGo will announce the final dates for moving services to NMIA and launching new services at CSMIA.
The phased shift will bring a significant increase in connectivity at NMIA and widen the options for international travel from CSMIA. Passengers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will get more domestic and international travel choices at both airports.
