India win shooting gold and silver in two minutes at Asian Games 2026
India climbed to 12th on the medal table after a silver in men's 50m rifle 3 positions and a gold in mixed team 10m air pistol at the Asian Games in Japan.
India received two pieces of good news from the shooting range within two minutes of each other at the Asian Games 2026 being held in Japan. The country won a gold and a silver medal, pushing Team India well up the medal table. Before these two medals, India was in 15th place with one gold; it has now moved up to 12th.
First, the trio of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudrankksh Patil and Neeraj Kumar delivered a strong performance to clinch silver in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions team event. Indian shooters performed consistently well throughout the competition, from qualification through to the team event, finishing second to take the podium with the tricolour.
Exactly two minutes after this team's win, India added another shooting medal to its tally, and this time it was gold. In the final of the mixed team 10m air pistol event, the Indian pair of Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh comfortably beat a strong South Korean pair to create history for the country. This is India's second gold medal at these Asian Games, and its first gold in shooting.
In the final, India won gold with a score of 484.6 points. South Korea took silver with 478.0 points, while Iran won bronze with 415.8 points.
The strength of the Kamaljeet-Suruchi Singh pair was evident from the morning's qualification round itself. The duo finished first in qualification with a new Asian record of 587 points to seal their place in the final. They held a big 70-point lead over Mongolia, who finished second in qualification, making it clear that the pair was set to put in a strong performance in the final as well, which is exactly what happened.
