India men's compound archers beat China by one point for Asian Games team gold
Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Manirathnam Thirumuru won the final 238-237 on Day 11, India's third archery gold and tenth gold overall.
The 11th day of the 2026 Asian Games was a golden one for India. After the women's team, the men's team also won gold in the compound event in archery. India faced China in the final.
The Indian team trailed by one point in the third set. In the fourth and last game it took the lead and won the match 238-237. With this win, India completed a hat-trick of golds in archery. Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Manirathnam Thirumuru won this third gold for India. The country's gold tally now stands at ten.
In the men's compound team event, Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Manirathnam Thirumuru met South Korea in the semifinal. The Indian archers won that contest 236-229 and reached the final. The team also performed strongly in the final, though India were behind at one stage of the gold medal match against China.
Just before the last round, India trailed 178-179. China then made a big error with a shot that scored 8. The Indian team made no mistake after that. It held its lead and finally won the match 238-237. China's archery team lost by just one point and had to settle for silver.
It was a memorable day for India at the 2026 Asian Games. The team won three more medals in archery and one in shooting today. Four team medals came in all.
The gold medal results were as follows. In the women's compound archery team event, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Pritika Pradeep beat China 238-234 to win gold.
In the mixed compound archery team event, Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav beat South Korea in a shoot-off to win gold. With this, they also secured their place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In the mixed trap shooting team event, Neeru Dhanda and Kayan Chenai won gold. In the men's compound archery team event, Sahil Jadhav, Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Manirathnam Thirumuru beat China 238-237 to win gold.
