West Indies beat India in the third ODI at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh. India had already won the series, having taken the first two matches. West Indies nevertheless won the last match and denied India a clean sweep.

India won the toss and chose to bat, but made a very poor start. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli were both out with the score on just 4. The team managed only 28 runs in the powerplay. Rohit Sharma then played an innings of 92 and KL Rahul stayed unbeaten on 129. On the strength of the two, India made 351 for seven and set West Indies a target of 352.

India added 105 runs in the last 10 overs. Jayden Seales took the most wickets for West Indies, three.

In reply, West Indies captain Shai Hope kept the team's hopes alive through the innings and returned unbeaten on 162. West Indies lost their third wicket at 206. Sherfane Rutherford was out for 24 off 25 balls, caught by wicketkeeper KL Rahul off Naman Dhir's bowling. Rutherford felt the ball had not touched the bat and appeared unhappy with the umpire's decision. The commentators also felt the third umpire had been hasty in giving the decision.

The partnership between Hope and Keemo Paul put West Indies in a strong position in the match. Gurnoor Brar then broke the pair. At that point West Indies needed 81 runs off 60 balls. After Paul's dismissal wickets began to fall, but Hope stayed firm at the other end. In all three matches of the series West Indies appeared to stall in the closing overs, yet the team kept waiting for its chance and eventually won the match.

Indian captain Shubman Gill was playing an ODI at this ground for the first time. He has played a Test and a T20 international here, so the stadium was not new to him, but he could not do much with the bat. Rahul's innings of 129 went in vain. The visitors scored freely off Kamboj's overs and the match slipped out of India's hands.
