Tech company Honor has launched its new budget-friendly smartphone, the Honor X5ds, in South Africa. The company says the phone's standout feature is its rear display, which sets it apart from other devices in its price segment.
The back panel carries a 2.01-inch secondary screen. It can be used not only for taking selfies but also for viewing call alerts and controlling media. The screen supports touch, allowing a one-tap selfie with the rear camera, and call alerts and music controls are available there as well.
The Honor X5ds comes in a single variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It is priced at ZAR 2,499, roughly $150 or about Rs 13,000. Buyers can choose between Forest Green and Midnight Black. The company has not yet said when the phone will reach other markets.
The main screen is a 6.78-inch LCD display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and normal brightness of 600 nits. The 2.01-inch secondary screen at the back is also an LCD.
For performance, the phone has a Unisoc T610 chipset with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, plus support for 4GB of virtual RAM. A dedicated three-card slot allows storage to be expanded up to 1TB.
The rear camera is a 50MP unit with an f/1.8 aperture, along with 4x digital zoom and a single LED flash. It can record video at up to 1080p. For selfies, there is a 5MP front camera that also supports video recording at up to 1080p.
The phone has a 6000mAh battery with 15W wired charging. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, 4G LTE, dual SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
