HMD launches 2660 Flip Senior Edition feature phone with Mary AI assistant for elderly users

Tech company HMD has launched a new feature phone, the HMD 2660 Flip Senior Edition, designed specifically for the needs of elderly users.

Its key feature is the Mary AI assistant. The assistant can chat with elderly users and tell them stories. The phone also comes with some games.

The company designed the phone together with AI firm inTouch. Its aim is to connect elderly people to technology in an easy way.

The phone is priced at 79.99 British pounds, or about Rs 10,160. It is currently available to buy in the UK.

Mary is built into the phone's interface, so no separate app needs to be downloaded. Setup is also simple. Users can select Mary from the phone's menu and press the call button.

The assistant can talk on general topics, tell stories and help users play memory-boosting games. Mary can also remember information shared during conversations, which can make later conversations more personal.

On specifications, the phone has a 2.8-inch QVGA primary display and a 1.77-inch secondary display. It has a Unisoc T107 processor, 48MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage. A microSD card slot allows storage to be expanded up to 32GB.

The phone also has a VGA rear camera, an LED flash, a wireless FM radio, an MP3 player and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It has a removable 1,450mAh battery. Connectivity includes 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2 and a USB Type-C port. The device runs on the S30+ operating system and has large physical buttons.
