Heavy rain forecast on Anant Chaturdashi; alert in 21 Maharashtra districts
IMD issues orange alert for three districts and yellow alert for 18 others on September 25, the day of Anant Chaturdashi
Rain has intensified across Maharashtra, with several parts of the state currently receiving showers. Nearly half of the state has now been placed under a heavy rain warning. On Friday, September 25, the day of Anant Chaturdashi, an alert has been issued for as many as 21 districts in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued two different levels of alert for these 21 districts, indicating where the intensity of rain could be higher.
According to the IMD's latest forecast, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in Konkan-Goa, parts of south-central Maharashtra and parts of Marathwada. Gusty winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are also likely in these areas, the IMD said. Winds of the same speed, 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, are also forecast for some districts in central Maharashtra.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for three districts in the state, while a yellow alert has been declared for the remaining 18 districts. The IMD has forecast the possibility of extremely heavy rain in some parts of the state on Friday, meaning rain intensity is likely to be highest in some districts on the day of Anant Chaturdashi.
The districts under the orange alert are Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gondia. The 18 districts under the yellow alert are Jalgaon, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim and Yavatmal. This means most districts of Vidarbha and Marathwada are on the list.
Looking at the region-wise forecast for September 25, isolated rain is likely in Konkan, with thunder, lightning and gusty winds in some places. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada are also expected to see similar isolated rain. In Vidarbha, however, rain is likely at most places, with heavy to very heavy rain along with thunder and gusty winds forecast in some areas.
The forecast for September 26 is expected to remain largely similar. Isolated rain is likely in Konkan. Central Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to see isolated rain with thunder and gusty winds. Rain is expected at many places in Vidarbha, with heavy rain, thunder and lightning likely at isolated places, according to the IMD.
