Heat and humidity rise in Maharashtra as monsoon exits; yellow alert for Konkan
With the rains easing, 'October heat' is being felt across the state, and a yellow alert for hot and humid weather has been issued for parts of Konkan on October 3.
The weather has begun to change in Maharashtra as the monsoon season ends. In early October itself, the heat of the 'October heat' is being felt in many parts of the state. People in the Konkan belt, including Mumbai, are troubled by the heat and high humidity. A yellow alert for hot and humid weather has been issued on October 3 for some districts of Konkan.
Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri are currently hot and humid. With the rain having stopped, the humidity feels even greater. The weather is likely to remain the same in these areas for the next two to three days. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius in some places. People in Mumbai and Konkan may thus have to contend with both the sting of the sun and the humidity.
The weather is expected to remain mostly dry in the North Maharashtra districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon and Nashik. The chances of rain here are low for now and the temperature may rise. The maximum temperature may be about 31 degrees and the minimum 18 degrees Celsius.
In West Maharashtra too, around Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur, the rain has taken a break. The sky may therefore remain clear to partly cloudy. The maximum temperature here is expected to be about 32 degrees and the minimum 22 degrees Celsius. No major change in the weather is expected in the next few days.
In many parts of Marathwada, the halt in rain has increased farmers' worries. The rain deficit continues and is affecting farming. The weather is likely to stay dry in several districts ahead as well. The maximum temperature here may be 34 degrees and the minimum about 24 degrees Celsius.
In many parts of Vidarbha too, there is no firm rain warning for now and the weather is expected to stay dry. With the rain having stopped, the temperature is rising and people may have to bear the humidity. The maximum temperature is likely to be about 34 degrees and the minimum 23 degrees Celsius.
While a yellow alert for hot and humid weather is in force in Konkan, rain has paused in many other parts of the state. The effect of the October heat is clearly visible because of the higher humidity and temperature. Farmers and the general public are now watching whether the returning monsoon will become active again and bring rain to Maharashtra.
