India put New Zealand under pressure in the first ODI, with Gurnoor Brar's one-handed catch off his own bowling removing Tom Latham.

India began their ODI series in New Zealand today. Several players with little experience are set to feature in the series. In the first ODI, India have New Zealand in trouble for now, and all eyes are on Gurnoor Brar.

Catching the ball in the follow-through, while moving forward after delivering it, is very difficult for any fast bowler. The tall Brar did just that with remarkable ease. In the first ODI against New Zealand on October 4, he showed alertness and speed to snatch the catch that dismissed Tom Latham. Latham was out for 3 off 11 balls. Brar took the catch with one hand, and the video is now going viral.

Brar bowled the last ball of the 16th over well outside off stump. Latham tried a weak drive at it, but the ball bounced up in the air. Brar stretched out his left hand and the ball landed in it. The spectacular one-handed catch sent Latham back to the pavilion and dealt New Zealand a big blow.

It is no secret how dangerous Latham can be once he is set. That is why his wicket was important. After the wicket, New Zealand were 84 for four in 17 overs.

Earlier, Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first. Light rain and a wet outfield delayed the toss by 20 minutes. As a result, the match also started 10 minutes late, but there was no reduction in overs.

India have given a chance to fast bowlers who are short on experience. Besides Gurnoor Brar, Anshul Kamboj, Aqib Nabi and Arshdeep Singh are among India's fast bowlers, and together they have experience of 29 overs. Mohammed Siraj took four wickets in the second unofficial Test, yet was kept out of the playing XI because Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are injured.

India have already won the five-match T20 series 3-2. After the five-match ODI series, the two teams will play a two-match Test series. India need to win all these series to stay at No. 1, and the Test series is considered especially important for India.
