GRP constable dies after hitting head on pool edge during get-together near Nagpur
Sachin Awari, 38, died on the spot when his head struck the concrete corner of a swimming pool as he dived in at a farm house in Kuhi taluka.
Sachin Awari, a 38-year-old Government Railway Police (GRP) constable, died in a swimming pool accident while attending a get-together with friends in Nagpur district, Maharashtra. The incident took place at Bal Giri Farm in Sonegaon, Kuhi taluka. Police have registered a case of accidental death and begun an investigation.
Awari had reached the farm house for a get-together with old friends from his 2013 batch. The friends had planned to spend time together to celebrate 13 years in the railway police service.
At around 10.30 pm on Tuesday, everyone got into the farm house swimming pool. Awari tried to leap into the pool, and as he jumped, his head struck hard against a concrete corner of the pool. An occasion of joy among friends turned into a tragedy in a moment.
Awari died on the spot from the serious head injury. Police reached the spot on being informed and began their investigation.
A case of accidental death (ADR) has been registered at Kuhi police station. Police are now trying to establish the circumstances of the accident and what safety arrangements the swimming pool had.
According to experts, jumping or diving into a shallow swimming pool without full caution can cause serious head and spinal injuries. In many cases, such injuries prove fatal.
Accidents while jumping into swimming pools have been reported earlier in Maharashtra as well. In June, a young man died after jumping into a pool at a resort while making a reel. He had gone out with five friends, and a video of that incident had also surfaced.
