Graduates' constituency poll to focus on industry, jobs and paper leaks, says Congress chief Sapkal
Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said defending democracy and speeding up development would be the main issues in the Legislative Council graduates' constituency election. According to him, industries are leaving Maharashtra, students are not getting jobs despite having degrees, and paper leak incidents are coming to light. He was speaking to reporters.
Sapkal was present when Abhijit Wanjari, the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate from the graduates' constituency, filed his nomination papers. He spoke to reporters on the occasion.
Sapkal said more than 40,000 agitations are under way across the country. He said that, from the standpoint of social justice, the caste census would also be an important issue in the graduates' constituency election.
Sapkal made serious allegations against the state government over the events at the Congress office in Mumbai. He said that if the police were giving out wrong information, they should make clear whose orders they had received.
Sapkal claimed he had CCTV footage and that the police had detained the Congress NSUI president. He alleged that the police entered the Congress headquarters without any permission.
Warning Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Sapkal said: "Devendra Fadnavis, enough is enough. If you send your policemen to our home, we too will have to come to your 'Varsha' residence."
On the Amravati constituency, Sapkal claimed there would be no rebellion. He said the Maha Vikas Aghadi partners would play complementary roles, with no differences or rebellion, and that all the parties would contest together.
Former state Congress president Nana Patole said the OBC issue would also figure. He said that after sustained pressure from Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to hold a census of OBCs, but there is no separate column for them.
According to Patole, this has caused widespread discontent in society. He said the issue would not remain limited to the election and would continue until the government includes a separate column for OBCs.
