Gastro outbreak in Satara's Talaye village, nearly 500 admitted for treatment
Nearly 500 people have been hospitalised after a gastroenteritis outbreak swept through Talaye village in Satara district.
A major gastroenteritis outbreak has hit Talaye village in Satara district, causing widespread worry among residents. According to reports, around 400 to 500 patients are undergoing treatment at various locations.
Patients have been admitted to the village's Zilla Parishad primary school, Wathar Station primary health centre, Palashi primary health centre, Pimpode Budruk rural health centre and Kinhai primary health centre, where treatment is ongoing.
Given the serious situation, senior Nationalist Congress Party leader and young entrepreneur Raju Kaka Bhosale has stepped in to help immediately. On his initiative and at his own expense, distribution of bottled drinking water has begun in the village. Large quantities of biscuits are also being distributed to patients and villagers.
Raju Kaka Bhosale has himself been going around the village since morning to assess the situation. He is speaking directly with patients and villagers to understand their difficulties, and is working with the administration to take necessary steps to bring the outbreak under control.
Meanwhile, his wife and Zilla Parishad member Jayashree Kaki Bhosale is also in touch with people in the area and reviewing the situation.
Villagers are angry over the large number of people falling ill. They say the functioning of the gram panchayat and the health department has been lax, and are now demanding that immediate concrete steps be taken to stop the outbreak.
Villagers say that along with the water supply, sanitation arrangements and health check-ups, the actual cause of the outbreak needs to be identified and treated effectively. Villagers are watching closely what steps the administration takes to bring the situation in Talaye village under control.
