Ganeshotsav sees huge modak demand, one order tops Rs 3.88 lakh
Quick commerce data shows Mumbaikars snapped up modaks, flowers and puja items during Ganeshotsav, with a Byculla customer spending Rs 3.88 lakh.
Ganeshotsav is not just an occasion for devotion and celebration, it also sees brisk buying of sweets and puja items. This year in Mumbai, people showed particular interest in buying modaks, fresh flowers and puja materials, with the love for modaks especially evident among Mumbaikars.
Quick commerce platform Instamart analysed orders placed between September 14 and 23, and found that modak was the most preferred sweet among Mumbaikars. It was followed by laddus and kaju katli, which were also popular.
The love for modaks, a favourite of Bappa, showed up in large orders as well. One customer in the city spent around Rs 8,277 on modaks alone.
Buying trends through the festival followed religious customs. On September 13 at 10:12 am, modak orders peaked, while overall demand for sweets saw a big jump the same day at 2:27 pm. On the morning of Ganesh Chaturthi, flower orders peaked at 7:45 am, while demand for puja materials peaked at 8:47 am. Demand for cleaning supplies also rose on September 19 as households prepared to welcome guests.
Mumbaikars celebrating Ganeshotsav with fanfare also spent generously on traditional gold purchases and gifts. A customer in Byculla spent a total of Rs 3.88 lakh across separate orders, while customers in Juhu and Kasarvadavali also made large purchases. The city's biggest order was dominated by gold and silver coins for puja. The second largest order included a 24 carat gold coin, motichoor laddus and kaju katli, while the third largest included a gold coin, a flower garland and puja materials.
