Nagpur Rural Police have arrested four men and seized 47.62 grams of mephedrone, known as MD, in a drive against the drug trade. The haul, along with three Android phones, is valued at Rs 2,68,100. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) and the NDPS squad carried out the joint operation between October 17 and 18, 2026, in the area under Bori police station.

Of the total, the mephedrone is estimated at Rs 2,38,100. The three Android mobile phones recovered from the men are put at Rs 30,000.

Police said teams from the LCB and the NDPS squad were out on a joint patrol in the Bori police station area when a trusted informer gave them a tip. According to the informer, a man was about to turn up near Bothli Phata on the Nagpur-Bori road to deal in MD. Officers treated the information as serious and first moved to verify it. They then set a trap at the spot and, on the strength of the tip, took action against four accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The accused were named by police as Firoz Ibrahim Khan (35) and Mohsin Abdul Bera (39), both residents of Butibori; Ehfaz alias Lucky Ahmad Khan (26), who lives in Kharbi near Nandanvan in Nagpur; and Farooq Multaz Shaikh (25), also a resident of Kharbi, Nagpur. All four have been booked under the NDPS Act. Their alleged part in drug trafficking is being looked into, and the inquiry also covers how the drugs came to be found with them. (Some spellings of the accused's names vary in police accounts.)

Once the operation was over, the case was passed to Bori police station for further investigation. The seized drugs, the mobile phones and the related documents were handed over along with it. Investigators will now try to establish where the mephedrone was brought from. They will also examine whether anyone else played a role in the alleged supply and sales network, and whether other suspects need to be identified.

The operation was run under the guidance of Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar (IPS), Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Maske (IPS), and Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Mayank Madhav (IPS).

From the Local Crime Branch, Police Inspector Ankush Mane, Assistant Police Inspector Vijay Chanor and Sub-Inspectors Mangesh Wankhede and Praveen Bhimte took part. They were joined by other officers and staff of the branch, among them Milind Nandurkar, Ashish Tekam, Vishnu Jaybhaye, Pramod Bhoyar, Shailesh Yadav, Sanjay Barodiya, Samrat Vanaspati, Rohit Ade and Nilesh Ingulkar, and driver Rahul Patil.

The NDPS squad members who helped were Praveen Deware, Amol Nagre, Deepak Toke, Prakash Dhoke, Anil Kardkhelekar and Avinash Todsam. Satish Rathod of the cyber cell also assisted in the operation.

The investigation is continuing, and police say further action will depend on what it turns up about the source of the drugs and anyone else involved.
