Four held for trying to loot onion-laden truck on Samruddhi Highway
Four men allegedly stopped a truck on the Samruddhi Highway, assaulted its driver and cleaner and tried to make off with it and its onion cargo before police caught them.
In an incident spanning Nagpur and Buldhana, a truck was stopped on the Samruddhi Mahamarg and its driver and cleaner assaulted, and an attempt was made to forcibly drive off with the truck along with the onions loaded on it. The Highway Safety Police acted swiftly and nabbed four accused in the case. The entire operation was carried out by the Highway Safety Police unit under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Lohit Matani.
According to information received by the police, at around 12:30 am on the night of 25 September 2026, a report of the truck being looted came in from the area near kilometre number 269 of the Samruddhi Highway, under the jurisdiction of Donagaon police station. It was reported that four men travelling in a Skoda car stopped the truck, beat up the driver and cleaner, and then made off with the onion-laden truck.
As soon as the information came in, the night patrol team of the Malkapur Highway Police Centre rushed to the spot. The police took a full account of the incident from the truck driver and also obtained details of the truck, numbered CG 04 PP 9113, through technical means.
During the investigation, police found that the same truck had been checked around 10 minutes earlier over a no-parking violation near Amani toll plaza in Washim. Based on this lead, police immediately contacted PSI Sarnaik at Amani toll plaza.
Thanks to this prompt action, the truck, the Skoda car and all four accused allegedly involved in the incident were taken into custody on the spot. Police thus managed to crack a major robbery case within a few hours.
A case of robbery has been registered at Donagaon police station in connection with the matter. Police are now questioning the accused to establish the motive behind the incident and to find out who else may have been involved.
The operation involved API Rahul Patil, PSI Sarnaik, ASI Khadse, HC Ashish Raut, PC Ramprasad Dole and PC Nasir Shaikh, along with several other officers and personnel of the Buldhana Highway Safety unit.
The prompt police action led to the accused being caught soon after the incident on the highway. It is being seen as an example of the effective use of highway patrolling combined with technical information gathered from different locations.
