The bodies of four children were found in a pond in Tirunirmalai, Chennai, on Sunday, shocking the area. The children had been missing since Saturday. People are speculating about the cause of their deaths.

The dead are two boys and two girls, all residents of Krishna Street in Lakshmipuram, Krompet. They are K. Devadarshan (12), D. Yuvanesh (10), Pooja (13) and Khushi (13).

Devadarshan was a Class 7 student at a government school in the area. Pooja and Khushi studied in Class 8, while Yuvanesh was in Class 6 at a private school. According to the police, the children were last seen playing outside their homes on Saturday afternoon. They then left the area and did not return home. The families began searching for them.

The parents spoke to relatives and friends. They also used WhatsApp groups to look for the children, sharing their photographs and details and appealing to anyone with information to come forward. When there was no trace of them, the families went to the Krompet police station and filed a missing-persons complaint.

The police immediately alerted their colleagues at Tambaram, Egmore and Chennai Central railway stations and at the Kilambakkam bus terminus. But bad news came on Sunday. People who had gone for a walk at the Tirunirmalai Periya Eri pond near Lakshmipuram saw four bodies floating on the water. They informed the police at once.

A rescue team of the police and the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services entered the pond and brought out the bodies. Family members at the spot broke down, and grief spread through the area. The four bodies have been sent for post-mortem to the government hospital in Tambaram district.

The police are now trying to establish how the children reached a pond so far from their homes and why they went into the water. The police suspect that they may have got stuck in the mud of the pond and drowned. For now, the police are looking at the case from different angles and will investigate in that direction too if anything appears amiss.
