Five held for kidnap, gang-rape of woman near Wardha railway station

Five people, including a minor, were arrested after a 20-year-old woman was abducted near Wardha railway station and gang-raped.

Police have arrested five people on charges of kidnapping a 20-year-old woman near Wardha railway station and gang-raping her. The action was taken under the guidance of Mangesh Shinde, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Nagpur.

According to police, the victim was sitting near the main gate booking office of Wardha railway station at around 2 am on September 25, 2026. It is alleged that an auto-rickshaw driver forcibly picked her up, put her in his auto, and took her towards Wardha city. It is further alleged that she was taken to a deserted, dark spot, where the accused took turns forcing themselves on her sexually, after which all the accused fled. The victim then went to the Wardha Government Railway Police Station and lodged a complaint against five accused.

Virsen Chanhade, the officer in charge of Wardha Railway Police Station, registered a case against the accused under crime number 275/2026 under Section 70(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Railway police officers and staff then began investigating to crack the case and picked up the accused based on suspicion. Under police questioning, the accused confessed that they had forcibly taken turns sexually assaulting the victim.

The first accused arrested has been identified as Vikram alias Golu Dineshrao Khandale, 28, an auto-rickshaw driver, resident of Indira Nagar slum, Ward No. 1, Arvi Naka, Wardha. The second accused is Om alias Durlabh Sunil Bawane, 18, who works in banner printing, resident of Mangatpura Gondplot, near Dinesh Jaiswal's house, Shivaji Chowk, Wardha. The third accused is Sheikh Mohsin alias Musa Sheikh Kasam Kanoje, 29, an auto-rickshaw driver, resident of Gajanan Nagar, Ward No. 1, Arvi Naka, Wardha. The fourth accused is Sheikh Sahil Sheikh Sharif, 32, an auto-rickshaw driver, resident of Mahadevpura, Taj Welding, Ward No. 14, Wardha. The fifth accused is a 17-year-old boy in conflict with law, also said to be a resident of Wardha.

All four adult accused were produced in court, which remanded them to three days of police custody. This information was provided by the Wardha Government Railway Police Station.

The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Mangesh Shinde, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Nagpur; Dr. Dattaram Rathod, Additional Superintendent of Police; Shankar Shelke, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Railways, Akola; and Punjabrao Dole of the Wardha Local Crime Branch. The operation was led by Virsen Chanhade, Police Inspector in charge of Wardha Government Railway Police Station, with a team including Pankaj Dhoke, Assistant Police Inspector in charge of Badnera railway station; Angad Kotwad and Nitinkumar Jadhav, Police Sub-Inspectors at Wardha Railway Police Station; Police Head Constables Santosh Wadgore, Dehankar and Ashok Hanwante; along with Gondhale, Gharde, Sahare, Prajwal Dabhade, Gautam Shirsat, Ajay Manaskar, Nilesh Kale and Aslam Kendre.
