Fire breaks out on sets of Ramayana and TV shows at Mumbai's Film City, no casualties
A fire on a temporary set at Film City in Goregaon East on Monday was doused in under an hour, and no injuries were reported.
A fire broke out on the set of the much-awaited film 'Ramayan', starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi. A temporary shooting set at Film City in Goregaon East, Mumbai, caught fire on Monday, causing brief panic in the area.
According to available information, the fire was reported at Film City at 4.02 pm on October 5. It had broken out on a temporary set behind Reliance Media Works and Prime Focus Studio.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade of the BMC, the fire started in a PCR unit built on a temporary set of about 100 by 20 feet behind Prime Focus Studio. Videos of the fire have surfaced on social media, showing plumes of smoke and flames rising from the set.
Preliminary information indicates that the fire spread to electrical wiring, installations and cables. Doors, wooden planks, AC units, bamboo, plastic items, sound systems and shooting equipment are also reported to have been damaged.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, BMC ward control and 108 ambulance service reached the spot. Firefighters brought the situation under control quickly, and the fire was completely doused by 4.55 pm. There was no report of any death or injury in the incident.
The impact of the fire is not said to be limited to the 'Ramayan' set. MTV's 'Hustle 5' and 'Pati, Patni Aur Panga 2' were also being shot at a nearby studio. Early reports say the fire first started on the set of 'Pati, Patni Aur Panga 2' and then spread to the set of 'Hustle 5'. There is no official information yet on how much damage the two sets suffered.
Several videos taken after the fire are being widely shared on social media, showing smoke and flames from the set. Discussion has also begun over the safety of the 'Ramayan' set.
'Ramayan' is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles. The project has already been in the news for its grand sets and scale of production.
