Elderly woman's gold chain snatched in Kandivali West by man posing as delivery boy

A gold chain was snatched from the neck of an elderly woman in Kandivali West, Mumbai. The entire incident was recorded on the housing society's CCTV camera, and it has caused alarm across the area.

The society's CCTV footage shows the accused going up to the woman on the pretext of asking for an address. As soon as he reached her, he snatched the gold chain from her neck and ran away.

The incident took place at 9.23 pm on November 3, 2026. Police are investigating the case further. A video of the incident is going viral on social media.

According to the information available, the accused had come disguised as a delivery boy and was asking for an address. While talking to the elderly victim, he pulled off the chain and fled. The incident has raised questions about the safety of senior citizens living in housing societies.

This is not the first such case. Similar incidents have earlier been reported in Dahisar and Borivali, where someone approached on the pretext of asking for an address, a lift or help, and left after snatching a chain.

Chain thefts have also occurred in Kandivali before. In August 2026, a 65-year-old woman out on a morning walk in Kandivali East had a 2-tola chain snatched from her neck. Thieves on a bike snatched the chain, and that incident was also captured on CCTV. It has been said that the same method was used in those incidents too.

According to Mumbai Police figures, an average of 25 to 30 gold chain theft cases have occurred in Mumbai every month in 2025-26. Most of these cases are reported from the Kandivali, Borivali and Malad areas.

Mumbai Police are investigating the Kandivali West incident. In view of the incident, residents of housing societies, in Mumbai or elsewhere, and especially the elderly, need to be more vigilant.
