DTC Foundation held a special awareness programme at the Zilla Parishad school in Pachgaon, with the aim of raising awareness of women's health and giving young girls accurate information about breast cancer. The event was held to mark National Cancer Awareness Day, observed on November 7.
The main goal was to convey accurate information about breast cancer. The programme focused on the early symptoms of the disease, its possible causes, why timely screening is necessary and what health precautions should be taken.
Village head Chetan Phating presided. DTC Foundation volunteers Dimple Narnaware, Sanchita Somkuwar, Ashish Wasnikar and Yash Somkuwar were present. The school's headmaster, Gajanan Motghare, and teachers Savita Dhawale, Prabha Shirpure and Varsha Randhari also attended.
Akanksha Somkuwar, secretary of DTC Foundation, explained different aspects of breast cancer to the girls. She stressed that the disease is easier to treat if it is noticed early, and said early diagnosis, timely medical advice and regular health check-ups are therefore important.
A question-and-answer session followed, in which the students freely asked the questions and doubts they had about the disease. Somkuwar answered all of them in simple, easily understood language. This helped clear up misconceptions about the disease and encouraged the girls to be more careful about their own health.
The programme conveyed the message that timely awareness, accurate information and prompt medical examination are important steps in fighting cancer.
Speaking on the occasion, DTC Foundation president Akash Meshram said the initiative would not be limited to a single school. The foundation plans to hold similar awareness programmes on a large scale in Zilla Parishad schools, colleges and rural areas.
Meshram also emphasised that the foundation's main objective is to take accurate health information to every section of society through awareness and education initiatives.
