DRI seizes leopard skin in Gondia and Rs 1.05 crore of amphetamine at Nagpur in three days
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence's Nagpur unit made two seizures on tip-offs, arresting two people in a wildlife case and a woman in a narcotics case.
The Nagpur regional unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has carried out two major operations within three days, acting on secret information. One busted an inter-state drug trafficking gang and led to the seizure of amphetamine worth Rs 1.05 crore. The other, in Gondia district, led to the seizure of a leopard skin and the arrest of two members of a wildlife trafficking gang.
In the wildlife case, a DRI team on September 29 acted against a gang involved in wildlife trafficking near Purada village in Gondia district. A leopard skin was recovered during the operation and two people were arrested. The seized skin and the two accused were handed over to forest range officials for further action.
The DRI has been taking regular action to protect wildlife across the country. A leopard skin was earlier seized in Ujjain. The agency has also seized tiger bones in Seoni, pangolin scales in Pileru and Jagdalpur, and elephant tusks in Mysuru.
In the narcotics case, DRI officers on September 27, with the help of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Central Railway, acted at Nagpur railway station. A woman travelling in the Rajdhani Express from Hazrat Nizamuddin to KSR Bengaluru was detained and her luggage searched.
The search revealed a secret compartment made of cardboard behind the cloth lining inside a suitcase. Two packets wrapped in blue carbon paper were found in it. A field drug testing kit indicated that they contained amphetamine.
Officers seized a total of 1.312 kg of amphetamine, valued at about Rs 1.05 crore in the illegal market. The woman was arrested under the NDPS Act and produced the same day before a court sitting on the holiday.
