Disha Salian case: CBI registers FIR six years on, father names top names
Following a Bombay High Court order, the CBI has taken over the probe into Disha Salian's death after her father alleged evidence tampering.
The case of Disha Salian, former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has returned to the headlines six years after her death. Following an order from the Bombay High Court, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) and taken over the investigation. The action follows a complaint by Disha Salian's father, Satish Salian. According to his statement, it names Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray, actor Dino Morea and some others, along with serious allegations.
Satish Salian recorded his statement at the CBI's Mumbai office on Friday. He is reported to have named Aaditya Thackeray, Dino Morea, Suraj Pancholi, Rhea Chakraborty and some police officers in his statement. He has alleged that evidence related to Disha Salian's death was destroyed or that the investigation was influenced. How much truth there is in these allegations will only become clear after the investigation.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 14th floor of a building in Malad. Mumbai Police's earlier investigation had ruled it a suicide and stated that no evidence of a conspiracy was found. However, her father was suspicious of the circumstances of her death and had been demanding a fresh investigation.
Satish Salian had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking a fresh investigation into the case. On September 2, 2026, the court ordered the CBI to register an FIR and investigate. It also said a senior and experienced officer should be assigned to the case. However, the court made clear that no one would be treated as an accused until the investigation finds solid grounds.
Following the High Court's order, the CBI has sought all documents and investigation records related to the case from Malvani police. The process of handing over the old Mumbai Police investigation files to the CBI has begun. Based on these documents, the CBI will re-examine the entire sequence of events.
The CBI has assigned senior officer DSP Puran Kumar to investigate this high-profile case. Recording of Satish Salian's statement and examination of the available documents has begun. Besides this, a fresh examination of the scene, the earlier police investigation, the available evidence and the role of people connected to the case may also take place.
The naming of Aaditya Thackeray and some others in the complainant's statement has intensified discussion in political and film circles. However, the CBI's investigation is still at an early stage and no allegations against anyone have been proven so far. Further action will depend on the evidence and statements gathered during the investigation. The actual cause of Disha Salian's death and the truth of the allegations in the complaint will only emerge once the CBI's investigation is complete.
