Direct second-year engineering admissions in Maharashtra jump to 50,153
Maharashtra's CET Cell says 50,153 students secured direct second-year engineering admissions for 2026-27, up 7,421 from last year.
The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell has released the final figures for Direct Second Year Engineering admissions for the academic year 2026-27. The process was carried out through the CET Cell, as it is every year, and shows a clear rise in demand for engineering seats.
A total of 50,153 students have confirmed admission to engineering seats this time, an increase of 7,421 over the previous academic year 2025-26, when 42,732 students had taken admission. A total of 53,328 seats were available across the state for the process, while 70,038 candidates had registered for admission. Online registration was held between July 7 and July 22, 2026.
Data released by the CET Cell shows a steady rise in Direct Second Year Engineering admissions over the past four years: 50,153 in 2026-27, 42,732 in 2025-26, 41,902 in 2024-25 and 34,523 in 2023-24, pointing to a growing student interest in engineering each year.
The admission process was completed under the Centralized Admission Process, or CAP, over four rounds followed by an institutional round. The first round saw 13,177 admissions, the second 13,046, the third 9,439 and the fourth 9,400. Admissions were also made under other quotas: 4,638 under CAP, 417 under the CAP Minority quota, and 36 under the Jammu and Kashmir and AICTE quotas.
After the institutional round was completed, 50,153 of the 53,328 available seats had been filled, leaving 3,175 engineering seats vacant under the CAP quota.
