A worrying situation has come to light over the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Bal Sangopan Yojana running in Dharashiv district. The stipend given under this scheme has not reached 6,086 beneficiaries in the district since August 2025. In other words, the money has been stuck for a full 13 months, creating financial difficulties for the families of children in need.

The scheme is run under the Women and Child Development Department. It is learnt that a grant of about Rs 17.80 crore under the scheme is currently stuck. As per the scheme's rules, every beneficiary receives Rs 2,250 per month. On this basis, one month's stipend for Dharashiv's 6,086 beneficiaries works out to Rs 1.37 crore approximately.

Notably, the stipend for four months, from April to July 2025, was credited to beneficiaries' accounts in July-August 2026. But after that, the grant has been stuck since August 2025 due to a shortage of funds and has not been credited so far.

Those concerned say the remaining stipend is expected to be credited by Diwali and that the process for this is underway. But for families of children in need, meeting daily expenses, education and medical treatment is proving to be a genuine struggle for want of money.

It is also important to understand which children benefit from this scheme. Orphaned children, children with only one surviving parent, children whose mother or father is battling a serious illness, children who are mentally weak or disabled, and children from families where both parents are disabled can benefit from the scheme. There is also a provision to extend the benefit to two children from the same family.

Families supported by the Bal Sangopan Yojana are already financially weak. With their stipend stuck for 13 months, the real benefit of this welfare scheme is not reaching them on time. Beneficiaries have been repeatedly petitioning the concerned offices, but the outstanding amount has still not been credited to their accounts.
