Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's new film "The One" (Vvan) released on September 25. Expectations were high because of its unusual subject, a story based on Bihar's Van Devi temple and the significance of Chhath Puja. But once it released, audiences and critics did not take to the film. Even so, it made a decent collection at the box office on day one.

According to SACNILK figures, "The One" earned a net Rs 8.51 crore in India on its first day, while the gross collection stood at Rs 10.20 crore. A total of 1,420 shows were held across the country, but only 26 percent occupancy was recorded in theatres. Even so, this is being seen as a good result for Sidharth Malhotra, since his previous ten films had not done well at the box office. Compared to his earlier films, "The One" has had a better opening and higher first-day earnings.

While the box office numbers are decent, critics have panned the film completely. Well-known Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta called the film "torture" and gave it just half a star. The film is also being trolled and turned into memes on social media. Viewers say the story of Van Devi and the theme of Chhath Puja were good, but the narrative is so scattered that it becomes hard to watch. They say the film fails to hold together till the end, and multiple tracks add to the confusion.

Expectations were also high because the film was directed by TVF. Deepak Kumar Mishra, who made the hit web series "Panchayat", has directed for the big screen for the first time with this film.

Viewers say the concept was good and the cast tried to perform well, but the research was not done properly, the story is scattered, and several unnecessary elements were included. As a result, it did not turn into a good mystery drama. Many also say the direction is fine, but the VFX needed more work. The film has been produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, Arunabh Kumar and Neeraj Kothari.
