Demand to stop industries leaving Kalmeshwar MIDC, MLA Potdar urged to take up issue
Four local residents have asked MLA Rajeev Potdar to press the government for steps to retain existing units and attract new ones at Kalmeshwar MIDC.
A demand is growing for concrete government-level steps to develop industry at Kalmeshwar MIDC, so that the units now running stay on and new industries come in. MLA Rajeev Potdar has been asked to put the problems of Kalmeshwar MIDC effectively before the government and the departments concerned.
Those making the demand included Dhananjay Joshi, Amar Mohite, Dilip Gajbhiye and Mohan Saudagar. They said industries should get the necessary facilities, be given relief in taxes, and that the right steps should be taken to develop the industrial area. The four asked MLA Potdar to take the initiative at the government level.
According to the government district export action plan, plots have been allotted to 170 industrial units in the Kalmeshwar industrial area. Of these, 110 units are reported to be operational. However, the figure is based on old government records. It has been said that fresh figures must be obtained from MIDC to know the actual position in October 2026.
The petitioners said full information should be gathered on how many industries are running now, how many have closed and how many have moved elsewhere. Only then can a lasting solution to the problems be found. They said MIDC needs to stop industries from leaving and increase local employment and business opportunities.
In their view, when established industries move to another industrial area or stop production, the local economy is directly affected. They therefore demanded that the real reasons for the exodus be found and addressed. They also said special attention should be paid to providing industries with basic facilities, including roads, water, electricity, drainage, street lights and transport.
They also urged the government to consider proposals to give industries relief in various taxes and charges, concessions in power tariffs and other incentives. The demand is that MLA Potdar raise the issue of Kalmeshwar's industrial development with the state government and the MIDC administration.
Seeing the potential for industries in several sectors, including pharmaceuticals, in the MIDC area, a demand was made to consider developing it as a pharma hub. Proposals were also made to promote fresh investment in sectors such as agro-based industries, food processing, orange processing and medical equipment manufacturing. They also demanded measures under the existing industrial policy, such as relief in taxes and charges and concessions in power tariffs, to cut production costs and draw new investors.
The need to create an investment-friendly climate by giving new industries the necessary facilities was also stressed. It was hoped this would increase job opportunities for local youth and give a boost to business in the area.
