Daund police book seven in a day over illegal liquor sale and gambling den raid
Police in Daund took two actions in one day, against an illegal liquor seller and a rummy gambling den at Shalimar Chowk, registering cases against seven people.
Police launched a tough drive against illegal activities in Daund taluka and took action at two separate places in a single day. In one case, a man selling liquor illegally was booked. In the other, police raided a gambling den in the Shalimar Chowk area of Daund town and detained six people. Cases have been registered against a total of seven people in the two actions.
The first case relates to the Masnerwadi, Yede Vasti and Lingali area under Daund police station limits. Police had information that liquor was being sold illegally from behind the cover of a grocery shop on the roadside leading towards Daund Sugar. Acting on this, police raided the spot.
During the raid, Bhagwan Mahadev Yede, 50, was found selling country and foreign liquor. Police seized liquor worth Rs 1,740 from him.
The second action took place at Mhasoba Chawl, Shalimar Chowk, in Daund town. Police had received information that gambling was going on in the open space behind a closed house. Based on this, police acted and detained six people.
Items worth Rs 4,570 in all were seized from them, including a pack of 52 cards, gambling material and cash. Police found that the men were betting money and playing rummy.
In both cases, cases have been registered at Daund police station on the complaint of police constables Pawan Shankar Mane and Gorakh Babasaheb Hazare. The liquor case was booked under Section 65(e) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949. In the gambling case, Section 12(a) of the Maharashtra gambling law has been invoked.
Further investigation is under way under the guidance of Police Inspector Hemant Shedge.
