Villagers of Damapur Mohda in Jiwati taluka have demanded police action against the illegal sale of liquor in the village. They have voiced concern that the growing sales have put the village's social peace and order at risk.

To curb the problem, the Gram Vikas Samiti, Damapur Mohda, had submitted a written representation to the station house officer of Jiwati police station. It sought strict action against illegal liquor.

After submitting the representation, the committee wanted peace and security to be maintained in the village and awareness to grow among villagers. With this aim, it invited the station house officer to the village. Accepting the invitation, the police held a special awareness and peace meeting with the villagers.

There was deep concern in the village that illegal liquor was pushing large numbers of the village's youth towards addiction.

Speaking at the meeting, the station house officer assured villagers that illegal liquor sales in Damapur Mohda would be raided immediately and strict legal action would be taken against those involved. The officer warned that illegal trade would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The officer appealed to villagers to inform the police without hesitation if they saw illegal liquor sales or any other unlawful activity anywhere in the village, and gave an assurance that the names of those giving information would be kept confidential.

All members of the Gram Vikas Samiti, Damapur Mohda, respected citizens of the village, representatives of the Mahila Mandal and a large number of villagers attended the meeting. The villagers are satisfied with the police initiative and assurance. They now hope the village will become completely free of liquor.
