Countdown begins for 2027 World Cup, ICC set to release schedule soon
With the 2027 ICC Men's World Cup a year away, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will co-host a 14-team event using a revived Super Six format.
Excitement among cricket fans has peaked over the ICC Men's World Cup, the sport's biggest and most prestigious tournament. The tournament will be held next year, in 2027, and will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
A total of 14 teams will take part in this edition. The ICC has decided to bring back the Super Six format used in the 2003 World Cup, which is expected to be played out over four stages. The format is set to make for an exciting tournament. The ICC could make an official announcement on this soon, and the full schedule is also expected to be released shortly.
The tournament will be held between October and November next year. With this in mind, all the major teams around the world have begun their preparations. This is why the ICC is expected to announce the timetable soon.
With just a year left for the World Cup, India as well as top teams such as Australia, England and South Africa have started focusing on the One Day International format. All team managements appear to be focused on giving opportunities to young players and building team balance.
Once the schedule and venues are announced, it will become easier for all 14 participating teams to finalise their preparations. Cricket boards will get the right time to plan strategy according to opponents, pick their final 15 players based on ground conditions, and organise travel. With only a year left for the tournament, the International Cricket Council could officially announce the schedule for this showpiece event at any time.
