The Congress will run a campaign for a full month in cities and villages across the country to put the alleged errors in the SIR before the public. The party will meet directly all voters whose names have been deleted from the electoral rolls. Documents will be prepared on this basis.
The information was given by Dr Ami Yajnik, an All India Congress Committee observer and former MP. A meeting of the local executive was held at Deodia Congress Bhavan in Nagpur, after which she spoke to reporters. City president Praful Gudadhe, district president Ashwin Bais, Ashok Dhawad and Atul Londhe were present.
Yajnik said the law on the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner was changed in 2023. Under it, the Chief Justice was removed from the selection committee. A minister was included in the committee on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. She said, "We asked the Election Commissioner for the digital electoral roll, but it is not being given."
She said Prime Minister Modi is the key person on the committee, yet he says nothing on the matter. She demanded that the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah resign.
The Congress will also run a Save Democracy campaign between 2 and 8 November. Yajnik said the Chief Election Commissioner is not ready to share even the details of the discussion held with the 2 other members of the Election Commission. According to her, this is proof of arbitrary functioning, and the Congress fight is against exactly this.
At the executive meeting, in connection with the Vote Bachao Desh Bachao campaign, she directed party units to hold padyatras, cycle rallies and scooter rallies by block, booth, prabhag and ward. She also appealed to workers to turn up in large numbers for the agitation at Ramlila Maidan on 1 November.
Yajnik said that to tell the public how each vote was stolen, there will be a chaupal in every village and a discussion at every square in the cities. Electoral rolls will be put up at crossroads, and a check will be made of whose name is missing. The agitation will be held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on 1 November, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Office-bearers present at the meeting asked Gudadhe to expand the city executive, saying it would strengthen the organisation. Gudadhe said workers should be proposed for the booth, block, prabhag and city executives and a list of names submitted, so that it can be sent to the state committee for approval.
Many workers and office-bearers attended, including Bunty Shelke, Suresh Jagyasi, Vijay Sartakar, Nayana Jhade, Ajay Hatewar, Bandopant Tembhurne, Purushottam Hazare, Vasudev Dhoke, Usha Kharbikar, Ravi Parate, Jalil Ansari, Abhay Randive, Veena Darwade, Nagesh Nimje, Anand Vairagade, Ashok Walekar, Afzal Shah, Mohan Marode and Avinash Lokhande.
