Congress to hold non-violence padyatra in Chandrapur on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2
The All India Professional Congress and Chandrapur's district and city Congress committees will hold the march from Gandhi Chowk at 7 am on October 2, 2026.
The All India Professional Congress, the Chandrapur District Congress Committee and the City Congress Committee have organised a padyatra titled "Gandhiji's Path, Message of Non-violence" at 7 am on October 2, 2026. The march is being taken out on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Its aim is to carry Gandhi's message of truth, non-violence, peace and humanity to the common people.
The padyatra will start from Gandhi Chowk. It will then pass through Vitthal Mandir, Shri Talkies Chowk, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai School, Chor Khidki, Chhota Bazaar, Vijay Talkies, Anchaleshwar Gate and Dadmahal before returning to Gandhi Chowk. During the march, Gandhi's ideas of truth, non-violence, brotherhood and social unity will be promoted.
Chandrapur District Congress president and former MLA Subhash Dhote, city Congress president Shiva Rao Polshetty and the All India Professional Congress have appealed to office-bearers and workers of all frontal organisations of the district and city Congress, and to citizens who believe in Gandhian thought, to take part in large numbers.
Dhote said, "Not merely greeting Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary, but bringing his ideas into our conduct is the true tribute to him." He also appealed to all office-bearers of the Congress family, including the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI, Kisan Congress, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes department, the minority department and all other frontal organisations, as well as workers and citizens, to gather at Gandhi Chowk, Chandrapur, at 7 am on October 2 and raise the message of non-violence.
