The Congress and the INDIA bloc have called a large rally against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday, November 1. On Saturday, Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi shared a map of the rally route and appealed on social media to everyone to join.
Gandhi posted on X with the hashtag #ChaloDilli. In the caption he wrote, "See you tomorrow, let's walk together!" He also gave the route: Connaught Place, Minto Road junction, Ajmeri Gate, Ramlila Maidan. The post gives the date as November 1 and the time as 12 noon.
The rally will start at 12 noon from the Minto Road junction at Connaught Place. From there it will go via Ajmeri Gate to the historic Ramlila Maidan. Thousands of people are expected at the INDIA bloc gathering. Gandhi's post has set off considerable discussion in political circles.
Rain on Friday had waterlogged the ground. Work to prepare the ground for the rally had been under way since Saturday morning.
The INDIA bloc has begun preparing a symbolic public impeachment motion against Gyanesh Kumar. Under this, Congress leaders are due to gather on Saturday afternoon at the residence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, where the public impeachment motion against Kumar will be moved. Meira Kumar will preside over the event and Kharge will present the motion.
Saturday was also the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to her and recalled her contribution to the country.
Delhi Police is on high alert in view of the expected crowd and the security arrangements for such a large rally. On Saturday, senior Delhi Police officers, including the Special CP, DCP Central, DCP New Delhi and the Joint CP, closely inspected the entire route from Minto Road to Ramlila Maidan.
Delhi Police faces a twofold challenge. On the ground, it has to maintain security arrangements for the rally. At the same time, its social media team is checking the various claims circulating about the rally, so that false reports and facts on social media can be separated.
