The party's spokesperson said supporters can attend the rally, as Rahul Gandhi urged students and youth to join the march to save democracy and the Constitution.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has extended its support to the INDIA bloc's rally on November 1. The "Dilli Chalo" march is to be held at Ramlila Maidan. Rahul Gandhi has appealed to student organisations to join it, which raised the question of whether the CJP would take part. Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka has responded.
Ranka said the party's supporters can attend the rally at Ramlila Maidan. The CJP has also hinted that it will take part in the INDIA bloc's rally, and opinion is being sought from its workers on this.
Rahul Gandhi has told young people not to worry about police lathi-charge and said there is no need to be afraid. He appealed to them to join the march through a video. Gandhi said the march is not for any one political party but to save the soul of India. According to him, it is meant to protect the Indian Constitution and the country. He said the November 1 march is to save democracy, stop "vote chori" and defend the Constitution. He said anyone who feels that the country's democracy, Constitution, thought and freedom of expression are in danger should join the march.
The INDIA bloc held a meeting at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence on Thursday to prepare for the rally. Several leaders of the alliance, including Priyanka Gandhi, were present. The INDIA bloc and the CJP have been holding agitations against irregularities in the SIR process. The demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is also gathering strength from both sides.
The opposition INDIA bloc is to hold a "public impeachment" event against Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on Friday. Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, will take part. As permission was not granted elsewhere, the event will now be held at 10 Rajaji Marg at 3.30 pm. It will take place before the opposition's rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1.
In a public impeachment, the public or political parties agitate against a person holding a constitutional post. It questions the way the person functions and builds public pressure with a demand for resignation.
INDIA bloc leaders held eight protests between October 6 and 13 over the SIR and the demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. The Cockroach Janta Party and Left parties had also called for a protest on the same issue on October 10, but Delhi Police did not grant permission. During this time, barricades were put up in the city, 45 metro stations were closed and more than 7,000 protesters were detained.
