Complaint filed in Mumbai against Cockroach Janta Party chief Abhijeet Dipke over Shivaji Park protest
Advocate Siddhi Deolekar says the protest on Friday was held without permission, citing a 2013 Bombay High Court ruling on the Shivaji Park premises.
A complaint has been filed at a police station against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) president Abhijeet Dipke and some of his associates. The complaint follows the protest the CJP held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Friday, October 2.
The complaint was made by advocate Siddhi Deolekar. It is said that local residents were opposed to the CJP's protest at Shivaji Park, but the party ignored their objection and held the protest there.
According to the complaint, the protest had no permission. Despite this, CJP leaders held it, which disturbed the peace in the area, the complaint claims. Deolekar cited a 2013 Bombay High Court ruling. In her reading, that ruling strictly bars anyone from protesting in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park premises. The complaint also claims that Mumbai Police had not permitted the protest, yet CJP members gathered a crowd and demonstrated.
Deolekar said everyone has the right to protest, but the protest must be at the right place. In her view, it could have been held at Azad Maidan, but Dipke chose Shivaji Park. She also said Dipke should have gone to Jantar Mantar in Delhi. If he wants the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation, the demonstration should have been in Delhi, she said. She asked what the point was of protesting in Mumbai. In the complaint she also asked what would be gained by needlessly troubling ordinary citizens.
Deolekar said she has filed the complaint with Mumbai Police and that the police have accepted it. She said she expects the police to take appropriate action.
Meanwhile, the demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is now gaining strength. On Friday the Cockroach Janta Party held a strong show of strength at Shivaji Park and raised its voice for Kumar's resignation. As at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, thousands of students and many citizens gathered at Shivaji Park. The CJP has also said it will soon announce a protest in Delhi after Shivaji Park.
