A Class 12 student died by suicide by setting herself on fire inside a school in Delhi's Krishna Nagar area. Police reached the spot after being informed of a fire and found her in a burnt condition behind the guard room.
According to Delhi Police, Krishna Nagar police station received a PCR call on Saturday about a fire at a school. When police arrived, they found the student, about 18 years old, dead. Her bag was also burnt. Some items and her school bag have been seized from the spot.
Police said she was rushed to hospital at once, but had died before treatment could begin. Doctors declared her dead. Police said some inflammable material was also found in her bag.
A three-page suicide note was found in her bag. The note said she could not live up to her parents' expectations. She also wrote that a friend of hers had spoken to another girl. Police said the note also mentions a boy, so they are investigating a romantic angle as well.
Police said that after the sixth period, the student took her class pass and went to drink water. Two or three minutes later, her screams were heard. She was found near the water tank, completely burnt. Police said she had also consumed some chemical. She was from Gondli village and lived in Delhi with her sister, while her parents live in the village.
Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team also examined the spot. A crime branch team was also called to gather evidence and inspect the scene. The police team at the spot is looking into the circumstances that led to the incident. The incident spread panic in the area.
After news of the incident, Delhi government minister Ashish Sood visited the school and inspected the spot. He said, "The police are investigating the matter. The school has given all the evidence to the police. This is a tragic incident. All the information will be shared once the investigation is complete."
