CIDCO has taken several steps to keep water supply smooth and fair as shortages hit different nodes in its area, and has barred tanker water for builders.

Water shortages have hit several nodes in the CIDCO area. In response, the CIDCO administration has taken a number of steps together to keep supply running smoothly. The aim, it said, is that water reaches everyone equally and is not misused or unevenly distributed.

All 34 CIDCO tankers that supply water have now been fitted with a GPS system. In addition, CCTV cameras are being used to keep watch on the 11 main centres where tankers are filled. The administration said the main purpose of both measures is to bring transparency to tanker supply and to track the movement of every tanker.

With GPS in operation, it will be possible to see which route a tanker took, where it is, and where water was delivered. CCTV systems have been installed at all 11 main filling centres. Records of how much water is distributed each day are also being monitored.

Problems related to water are being reviewed regularly under the guidance of CIDCO Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Ashwin Mudgal. High-level meetings are being held to resolve shortages in the various nodes, and the agencies concerned are being given the necessary instructions.

CIDCO has also tightened rules on water use. To give drinking water needs first priority and to conserve water, it has barred builders from receiving tanker water for construction and development work. If tanker water is found being used for a swimming pool in any housing society, that society's tanker supply will be stopped immediately.

To prevent possible irregularities in supply, complaints that CIDCO's vigilance department received earlier are being investigated. The administration has warned that if irregularity or misuse in water distribution is proved, those concerned will face fines as well as strict legal action.

CIDCO said it is trying to provide citizens with regular, adequate and equal water. It has also appealed to citizens and housing societies to use water sparingly and cooperate with the administration.
