Chitra Wagh asks Opposition to introspect ahead of Thackeray cousins' Oct 4 Mumbai march
BJP MLA Chitra Wagh said the Opposition should examine its own record before marching against the Election Commission, and defended the Mahayuti government.
A march against the Election Commission is due in Mumbai on October 4. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray announced it at a joint press conference. Reactions have now begun to come in from political circles, and BJP MLA Chitra Wagh has made a sharp comment.
The atmosphere is already heated over the role of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Against this backdrop, Wagh commented on the proposed march by Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray. She said the Opposition should introspect before taking out marches.
Wagh said the Constitution has given everyone the right to raise their voice, but one should also examine one's own work and role before launching an agitation or march. She alleged that those who betrayed the Marathi people and brought them to the point of pawning their mangalsutra were now the ones taking out marches.
Wagh claimed that promises made to farmers during the Maha Vikas Aghadi's time were not fulfilled. She said the present Mahayuti government is working on farmers' issues. According to her, the Opposition is only misleading the public.
She also spoke on the Opposition's criticism of the Election Commission's role. Wagh said it is not right to take the stand that the Commission is good when the Congress wins and bad when the BJP wins. She said that instead of only pointing out the other side's mistakes, there is a need to examine one's own shortcomings.
Meanwhile, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray have announced the joint march in Mumbai on October 4. The march is reported to run from Byculla to the area around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.
Wagh also spoke about differences within the Mahayuti. She claimed that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar have good coordination and communication. She said that when senior leaders are working together, there is no need to give much importance to criticism from others.
