Work to bring water to areas of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city that have so far had no water line, called no-network areas, has been sped up. Testing of water towers has begun, cleaning work is under way, and the joining of internal water pipelines has also been taken up. The plan is to start phased water supply to these areas within a month.

With Diwali approaching, contractors and the company carrying out the work have been asked to increase manpower so that citizens get relief from water shortage soon.

A new water supply scheme worth Rs 2,740 crore is under way for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar city and has now reached its final phase. Under this scheme, water supply has begun in the Cidco-Hudco area through a 1,500 millimetre diameter pipeline. In addition, water is being supplied to different parts of the city through a 2,000 millimetre diameter pipeline.

For areas that were until now outside the network, separate planning has been done for each water tower to start the distribution system. Under this scheme, areas including Satara-Deolai, Misarwadi, Pisadevi Road, Mitmita and Sundarwadi, among others, will get water. Testing of water towers is under way, and the joining and cleaning of the internal pipelines connected to them has also been taken up. Once this work is complete, water will be released in phases from the respective water tower to that area. Contractors have been instructed to deploy extra manpower so that this distribution system work is completed on time.

Additional water is becoming available in the city through the new pipelines, which has brought the gap between water supply days down to 3 to 4 days. Priority is being given to providing tap connections to extended areas such as Satara-Deolai, Mitmita, Padegaon, Naregaon-Misarwadi, Harsul-Sawangi and Chikalthana.

The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran, MJP, has started additional water supply in the first phase. The municipal corporation has set up special camps for citizens of these areas to simplify paperwork and the tap connection process.
