Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar man held for raping minor cousin, case surfaces after pregnancy
A 20-year-old man has been booked under POCSO after his minor cousin's pregnancy and later miscarriage exposed the alleged rape.
A 20-year-old man has been accused of raping his minor cousin in the Jogeshwari area of Waluj MIDC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Police said the girl was 17 years and 4 months old at the time of the alleged assault. She became pregnant during this period, which came to light during a medical examination. She later suffered a miscarriage during treatment, and it was then that the full case came out.
Following the girl's complaint, a case has been registered against the accused at Waluj MIDC police station under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections. Police said the complaint states that the girl was raped repeatedly between 22 February and 1 March. Since she was a minor at the time, police have registered the case under the POCSO Act.
After the incident, the girl had gone to Mumbai, where her health deteriorated. She was admitted to a hospital for treatment. Separate medical examinations by doctors revealed that she was pregnant. After the pregnancy was confirmed, she was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai for further treatment, but she suffered a miscarriage during the course of treatment.
After the pregnancy and the subsequent treatment, the girl disclosed that she had been raped. Since the incident had occurred in the Jogeshwari area, she filed a complaint at Waluj MIDC police station. On receiving the complaint, police registered a case against the accused cousin under POCSO and other sections.
Police have begun investigating the sequence of events described in the complaint, examining the circumstances at the time of the alleged assault, the girl's medical examination and the allegations made in the complaint. The case is being investigated by Waluj MIDC police.
