Chandrapur policeman held with cleaver at Virur station, attacked by three half an hour later
A police constable in Rajura taluka was booked for drunken disorder and carrying a cleaver at Virur police station, then was beaten by three men at Chunala.
Two incidents involving the same police employee took place half an hour apart on September 30, 2026, in Rajura taluka of Chandrapur district. A case of disorder was first registered at Virur police station, and the same employee was then attacked at Chunala. Separate FIRs have been registered in both cases.
According to preliminary information, police amaldar Manoj Sunil Dubey (40), posted at Virur police station, reached the station at around 11.30 am, heavily drunk. He argued with the staff present and began to intimidate them. He is alleged to have slammed the station's door repeatedly and loudly. When officers and staff tried to calm him, he began to get aggressive with everyone.
The staff then noticed a sharp iron cleaver with a long blade tucked into his waist. On the instructions of senior officers, the staff overpowered him in front of panch witnesses, searched him and seized the cleaver.
On the complaint of amaldar Avinash Bhimrao Borule, a case has been registered against Dubey at Virur police station under the Arms Act and other sections, on the charge of spreading terror by carrying a dangerous weapon despite being a police employee himself.
The second incident took place about half an hour later, at around noon. According to the information, Dubey had no duty at Virur station at the time. He had set out on his motorcycle on the Vihirgaon-Rajura road to meet his elder brother, who is being treated in Chandrapur. It is alleged that a woman employee working at Virur station told the accused that Dubey was heading towards Chandrapur.
On the basis of this information, Shubham alias Bunty Arun Pipre and Pratik alias Golu Pipre (both residents of Pethward, Rajura) and Mayur Nikhade (a resident of Chunala) are alleged to have chased Dubey from the railway gate in a white Swift car (MH-34-CJ-1663).
When Dubey stopped behind Vihan Bar on the MIDC road at Chunala, near Rajura, the three accused are alleged to have got out of the car and beaten him badly with a wooden stick without saying anything. Dubey suffered serious injuries to the forehead, near the eye, elbow, leg and waist.
On receiving the news, a team from Virur police station reached the spot immediately. Dubey, who was lying covered in blood, was taken into custody and admitted to the Rajura sub-district hospital. A case has been registered at Rajura police station against the three accused under Sections 118(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The two incidents involving the same employee have caused considerable stir in the police department and in Rajura taluka. Police are investigating further.
