Chandrapur police raid house near Tukum Lake, rescue 11 bovines; two booked for illegal slaughter
Ramnagar police rescued 11 bovines and seized beef and butchering equipment worth Rs 1,73,192 from a house in Chandrapur on October 4.
Ramnagar police raided a house in the Tukum Lake area of Chandrapur city and rescued 11 bovines. Police had received information that illegal slaughter was under way in the house and that beef was being sold there. The raid was carried out on October 4, 2026.
Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani had directed strict action against illegal cattle slaughter and beef sales in the city. The directions were given to Prabhavati Ekurke, police inspector and in-charge officer of Ramnagar police station. Acting on them, officers and personnel of the station's detection team were gathering information on suspicious locations.
During this, police received confidential information from an informer. It said that Abdul Anis Abdul Nabi Qureshi (46) and Nafan Abdul Anis Qureshi (21), residents of Tukum Lake, were confining bovines in their own house for illegal slaughter and selling beef from the house.
On receiving the information, the Ramnagar police team planned a raid immediately. On October 4, 2026, police took a veterinary officer and panch witnesses along and raided the house at Tukum Lake. The search found beef in the house. Equipment for selling meat was also there, including a weighing scale, a cleaver and a wooden chopping block. Eleven male animals (bullocks) that had been confined were also found.
Police rescued the 11 bovines from the spot. All the material was seized in the presence of the panch witnesses. Property worth Rs 1,73,192 in all was seized in the operation.
A case has been registered against the two accused at Ramnagar police station. It has been booked under Sections 5(C) and 9 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 1995, Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1959, and Sections 31 and 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade, and sub-divisional police officers Kumar Sushant and Pramod Chaugule. Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekurke, Assistant Police Inspectors Shivaji Nagve and Hanuman Ugle, and Sub-Inspector Krushna Darade took part in the operation along with personnel of the detection team. They completed it successfully.
