Chandrapur: A 55-year-old man was seriously injured in a dispute over a goat at Usegaon in Savli taluka. According to the complaint, the quarrel began because the goat had gone towards a neighbour's house. The injured man is being treated at the General Hospital in Gadchiroli. Savli police have registered a case against two brothers under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is under way.

According to the information available, Shalik Donuji Ghonmode (55), a labourer who lives in Usegaon, returned home around 6 pm on September 28 after grazing his five goats. As usual, he was tying the goats in front of his house when Dinesh Govinda Gedam (35), who lives nearby, came there. The complaint states that he began hurling obscene abuse at Ghonmode, saying, "Why does your goat always come to my house?"

Ghonmode asked, "I am tying up the goat, why are you abusing me for no reason?" Dinesh Gedam and his brother Deepak Govinda Gedam then came out on to the road and began shouting abuse at Ghonmode, the complaint says.

As the quarrel escalated, Dinesh Gedam pulled out a wooden frame from a bullock cart standing on the road and struck Ghonmode hard on the head, the complaint says. It adds that Deepak Gedam also ran at him to hit him with another such piece. Ghonmode suffered a serious head injury in the attack. He was bleeding heavily and fell down, dizzy.

Ghonmode's wife and elder brother rushed to the spot on seeing this. They managed to stop Deepak Gedam, who was still issuing threats. They immediately admitted the bleeding Ghonmode to the rural hospital at Savli. After primary treatment there, doctors advised that he be taken to the General Hospital in Gadchiroli for further treatment as his condition was critical.

Savli police registered the case at 3.25 am on September 29 on the statement given by Ghonmode while he was being treated in hospital. The case against the accused brothers, Dinesh Govinda Gedam and Deepak Govinda Gedam, is under Sections 296, 3(5), 351(2) and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Assistant Sub-Inspector Surshen BK is investigating further under the guidance of Police Inspector Pradip Pullarwar.
