A case of illegal beef sale from a house has come to light in the Ramnagar police station area of Chandrapur city. Police raided the house and safely rescued three mute animals that had been tied up for slaughter.

The action was carried out on the orders of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani. Police seized a total of goods worth Rs 93,800, including the beef, equipment used in the sale and the animals, from the spot in the presence of witnesses.

A case has been registered against the accused at Ramnagar police station.

Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani had given clear instructions to Ramnagar police station in-charge Prabhavati Ekurke to identify and take strict action against anti-social elements illegally slaughtering cattle and selling beef within Chandrapur city limits. Following this, Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekurke ordered her team of officers and staff to root out such illegal businesses.

While gathering intelligence, police received information that Abdul Gani Sheikh Ismail Qureshi (49), a resident of Dispensary Chowk in Rayatwari Colliery, was illegally keeping cattle tied up for slaughter at his house and selling beef from there.

Once the information was confirmed, the police team planned immediate action. On September 18, police, accompanied by veterinary officers and in the presence of witnesses, raided the house of the suspect, Abdul Gani Qureshi, without warning. A search of the house turned up beef, a weighing scale used for sales, a meat-cutting cleaver and a wooden block, among other items. Besides this, police found three animals tied up for slaughter, including two cows and a calf, safe. Police seized all the items and animals, worth a total of Rs 93,800, in the presence of witnesses and rescued the three mute animals. A case has been registered against accused Abdul Gani Qureshi at Ramnagar police station under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, 1995.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pramod Chaugule. Under the leadership of Police Inspector Prabhavati Ekurke of Ramnagar police station, Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nagwe, Assistant Police Inspector Hanuman Ugale, Police Sub-Inspector Krishna Darade and police personnel Anand Kharat, Prakash Balki, Ramprasad Naitam, Baba Naitam, Ravikumar Dhengle, Jitendra Akre, Manisha More, Pankaj Thombre, Sandeep Gedam, Suresh Korwar, Prakash Madavi, Pankaj Ponde, Suraj Shedmake and Beauty Sakhare played key roles in the operation. Police have warned that such strict campaigns against those engaged in illegal activities in the city will continue.
