Chandrapur police have launched a crackdown on habitual offenders ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival, aiming to maintain peace and order in the area.

On the directions of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani, action under the MPDA Act (Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Slumlords, Bootleggers, Drug Offenders and Dangerous Persons Act, 1981, amended in 2009 and 2015) has been taken against 26-year-old Amol Adesh Ilamkar, a resident of Samatanagar, Durgapur, Ward No. 6, Chandrapur tehsil and district. The district magistrate has issued a final order externing him for one year.

Amol Ilamkar has a total of 19 serious cases registered against him at Durgapur, Ramnagar, Ballarpur, Ghugus and Mul police stations, including theft, house-breaking, attempt to murder, assault, abuse and offences under the Arms Act. His repeated offences had instilled considerable fear among local residents. He had faced preventive action before as well but did not stop his activities. The Superintendent of Police eventually took serious note of his escalating conduct.

Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani prepared a proposal for externing Amol Ilamkar and sent it to District Magistrate Vasumana Pant. Taking the proposal into consideration, the district magistrate on September 17 ordered that Amol Ilamkar be externed for one year.

The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Ayush Nopani and Additional Superintendent of Police Ishwar Katkade. It involved Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pramod Chougule (Chandrapur), Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satyajit Amle (Mul), Local Crime Branch Police Inspector Amol Kachore, Durgapur police station in-charge Santosh Shengaokar, Mul police station in-charge Vijay Rathod and Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Kharsan. The strict police action has caused alarm among habitual offenders in the area, while bringing a sense of security among the general public.
